The tennis shirt was not in this style back in the nineteenth or early twentieth century. Former tennis players had to contend with formal attires such as long-sleeved shirts, trousers and ties, which were just not practical on the court. The attire, similar to what we wear to office today, was stiff and awkward to wear while playing tennis. Therefore, Rene Lacoste, who was a French 7-time Grand Slam tennis champion, took matters into his hands and created a new line of apparel, specially designed to wear on the tennis court. Named after himself, Lacoste, this new tennis shirt was un-starched, made of loosely knitted pique cotton and had a longer shirt tail at the back. Also, the tennis shirt had a upturnable collar intended to protect the neck from prolonged sun exposure. Interestingly, this type of collar design was already discovered by polo players in the late nineteenth century, before Lacoste invented his tennis shirt in 1929. The idea of button-down collar stemmed from the need to keep the collar of the polo shirt from flapping in the wind. However, generally a polo shirt was unpleasant to wear as it was made of Oxford-cloth cotton and had long sleeves. As a result, the polo players were more than happy to adapt their polo shirts to Lacoste’s creation in the 1930s.
By 1950s, polo shirts were deemed as part of the standard tennis attire in America. It was highly sought after. In fact, the tennis players also cite their court uniform as a polo shirt”, although in reality, the t-shirt was initially designed for tennis and was only taken on by polo players a good many years later.
The t-shirt was made even more popular, because of Ralph Lauren. In 1967, he added polo shirt into his already famous clothing line called Polo. However, his polo shirts were not meant to be worn by professional players. They were only imitations of the style of what the polo players were wearing at that time.
The subsequent sport that adopted the design of tennis shirt was golf. As golf attire evolved into a more laidback and less formal design in the twentieth century, golfers started to wear tennis shirts as well. In fact, we see that almost all the golfers in the modern days wear tennis shirts. Lady golf attire is more creative with different shades of colors. But the design for golf shirt is a bit different from tennis shirt as it has various golf cuts. Meanwhile, tennis shirts have evolved into its own clothing category of clothing due to its perpetual popularity. Both men and women today wear it as daily attire. When round-neck T-shirts are considered too casual and official business wear too formal, many semi-professional and retail workers find tennis shirts or polo ralph lauren favorable. As a result, almost every major clothing producer has come up with some kind of imitations of Lacoste’s tennis shirts. At present, people regard tennis shirts as smart casual wear.

Style and Trends for Men
Looking good means more than having a wonderful fit body. It also means possessing a style that's all your own. Mens fashion can be boundless by applying a permanent and classic styles. More men today realized that looking good is a great asset in every aspect of their lives: e.g. for business, personal, or social. You can rarely see a men who used a non designer's clothes. Most men preferred a branded one.
Cuff, collar, buttons, placket-wait, placket? The world of men's dress shirts can be gross to its intended audience. Few men have the time or desire to understand the complex, the fundamentals, and the latest trend for menswear. In fact, men are among the rare individuals that confidently purchase garments without stepping into a fitting room. A medium is a medium, or a large is a large, right? To avoid looking hopelessly outdated, you might want to brush up on the ins and outs of current menswear styles. If the look is perfect on the runway, that doesn't mean that it's perfect for you as a complete copy. While you should use designer's best trends to guide your look and give it some style, mix-and-match your basics.
Use your favorites from seasons before for a more affordable style that's completely on-trend. Many men want fashion freedom, but what they want to wear is a big step from what they wear daily today. It is best to start slowly and build up to total fashion freedom.
Sizing has remained fairly standard over the years, but don't think that just because you have a slim frame a size small will fit you properly. Men's Polo Ralph Lauren shirts have two main measurements: the neck width and the sleeve length. The neck is usually the first measurement on the shirt label, while the sleeve is located below.
Unlike women's clothing, the width of the shoulders and waist are not taken into account. Additional notes on the shirt tag, such as "fitted" or "full-cut" identify how baggy or slim the garment is tailored. These notations will vary by designer, so it is a good idea to try on a few different styles if you're particular about how a shirt hangs on your body. Your clothes can have more defined style without necessarily having a logo on them, and when your pieces are subtly stylish, you can wear them more often. This is essential for those of us who tend to hang onto our favorite pair of jeans. A good collection of basics will help you highlight major fashion finds, and can give your trendy pieces more polished style.
If you love fashion, that doesn't mean you need to layer on the accessories. Choose a simple pair of shades, a man bag and a great pair of shoes to round out your wardrobe. There's no need for a watch, bracelets and necklaces worn all together. Don't try and make so much of an effort to look fashionable that you end up overdoing it. Keep a good balance of basic and fashionable clothes in your wardrobe like a Ralph lauren shirt.. As a rule of thumb, not more than half of your wardrobe should consist of trendy clothes, or worse, clothes that are out of style. Dress to impress for business or just a pleasure for yourself.
